We suggest that you start the day with a good breakfast in one of the cafeterias of the bustling San Gregorio neighbourhood, followed by a pleasant stroll around this teeming and charismatic central zone.
Visiting the church of San Gregorio is a must. Here you can view the numerous altarpieces and the work of the painter of religious images Luján Pérez, a Gran Canaria native. After wandering around this area you will surely have surrendered to some of the offerings to be found in the district’s traditional shops, with their exquisite personal service.

Our walk then takes us to the foundational part of San Juan, currently the municipality’s administrative and judicial centre. This district, with its stately houses, will make of your stroll a highly gratifying experience thanks to the architectural wealth and variety of houses and buildings combining the simplicity of the Mudejar style with other trends. We suggest that you devote some time to the Alameda and the Minor Basilica of San Juan Bautista, where you will find a wide variety of artworks. A highlight is the venerated Holy Christ of Telde.

Another must is a visit to the León y Castillo House Museum, which contains a very interesting collection of art and personal objects amassed by these personalities, learning about their crucial role in the history of the archipelago. Before leaving the district we suggest that you take a break in the Rincón Plácido Fleitas or in Plaza Alameda de San Juan, settings where neighbours and visitors often come together.

The last part of the morning takes us into the historic-artistic ensemble of San Francisco, where we wander through its cobbled alleyways, climbing along the aqueduct up to the centre of one of the oldest districts in the Canaries. In its streets, where time seems to stand still, we enjoy the view of the Convent Church of San Francisco, with an interior boasting numerous pieces of art in a baroque style and imagery in diverse styles.

Before setting out on an afternoon of interesting visits to archaeological sites, we must restore our energy with a lunch that gives us a choice between seafood in some of the restaurants of Telde’s coastline or the region’s produce in one of the friendly restaurants offering succulent home-cooked food in the municipality's interior.
We suggest a tour of the archaeological sites we proposed in the section on our archaeological heritage: Cuatro Puertas –near the urban centre, Tara and Cendro– in the municipality’s interior; Tufia on the coast. In any event, these visits will reveal to us quite a few secrets of the ancient aboriginals of Gran Canaria, for Telde’s archaeological treasures captivate both island dwellers and visitors.

To end a fantastic day out, we suggest you enjoy the sunset on the coast, with a pleasant stroll along the seaside promenade or simply relishing the spectacle of the sea in front of the Bufadero de La Garita.
